We flew to Florida on Sat Dec 10 to go to Disney World with Mema, Aunt Deb, Uncle Ed, and cousin Joey.  We spent 3 days at the Magic Kingdom, 1 day at Epcot, and 1 day at Hollywood Studios.  The kiddos LOVED it, which made the rest of us love it too (even if pushing 70 pounds of kiddos in the stroller at day 5 was farily tiring...).  Below are a few highlight pictures.  I am also going to create a new page showing many more pictures.  When it is done you will be able to access it on one of the tabs below the above picture.

While we have enjoyed traveling many times to visit family, it was great to finally go on our first family vacation to some where other than visiting family.  The four of us packed up the Jeep and drove to Vail, CO.  It took us 14 hours with stops and at times was challenging, but the drive really went better than expected.  The weather and Vail itself were gorgeous!  I will post many pictures here (more to come) with brief descriptions underneath.  However, for the most part the scenery and the smiles will speak for themselves!

There are four wonderful playgrounds in Vail, and we made it to all of them at least once.

Riding the gondola to the top of the mountain.  The kiddos loved the ride up and down!
Earlier that day Tim took his big up the gondola and rode down the mountain.  The second time down he took a few tumbles.  However, besides getting dirty he and his bike were fine.

The family at Piney Lake Ranch.
Piney lake is in Vail, however it took us about an hour of driving to get there since we had to drive up the mountain on a windy and narrow dirt road.  However, it was worth!  While there we went for a hike and ate lunch at the lodge.

Every Sunday afternoon in the summer there is a farmer market and art show in Vail Village.
The kids loved it because they got a free balloon.

For Christmas we drove to Austin, TX to send the holiday with Deb, Ed, Joey, and Mema (she flew in from MI).  Sammy and Lizzy both did great on the drive.  They played and were very happy.  The drive there was relatively uneventful, however on the drive back we hit some crazy weather!  Most of New Mexico was very windy and large tumbleweeds were constantly crossing our path.  We avoided most of them, but a couple hit us, including one that wedged into the grill!  Then, shortly before we crossed the AZ/NM border snow started to fall!  We spent ~ 30 minutes driving through snow in the desert.  We did get out and play in it a bit - however, Lizzy said it was "too cold" to play with...   That was a strange weather day!

Liz, Sam, and I flew to TX for a short weekend to help Deb make the final preparations before the baby arrived.  We had a nice time visiting with Deb, Ed, and Mema.  Lizzy was still not feeling well and most mornings were spent comforting her, but by afternoon she would feel better.

All four of us packed our bags and flew to MI on July 15.  Tim stayed for one week where as the kiddos and I stayed for two weeks.  For the first weekend Aunt Deb (who is pregnant with a boy due in Dec!) was also in town, and we all went to our cousin Mary's weddiing.  Overall, the trip was a nice combination of visiting, "site-seeing," and just relaxing.

Social butterflies just like to play!

While is K'zoo, we spent a lot of time getting together with friends and family, and just hanging out at Mema's house palying and doing "art projects.".  Here are some cute shots of some of these visits.  One of Lizzy;s favoriate activities was getting together with (Great)Aunt Miney and Cal and their family.  Lizzy especially loved playing with my cousin's 10 year old daughter Taya - too bad they were so busy swimming and playing that I never got a picture!
Picture
Mema and Lizzy did many art projects together.  Here they are filling small plastic bottles with colored sand.  At first they were making quite a mess, but then Lizzy suggested that we pour everything over a bowl to catch the extra sand.  Mommy and Mema wondered why we did not think of that???
Picture
Sammy did not want to participate.  Instead he crawled and around looking for trouble.
In other words, I did not get to do too many art projects, instead I just chased him around the house!

Sammy found the tupperward jackpot!  Since this was "safe" trouble, I let him play and rested for a while!

Lizzy and Ana (my friend Amy's daughter) really enjoyed playing pretend together.  Here Lizzy wasa princess (no surprise there!) and Ana was a zebra.  Are they fighting over Nemo?  I am really confused about which Disney movie this is supposed to be!

We had a nice dinner with (Great)uncle Ed, aunt Lisa, cousins Syliva and Ted.  After ward we hung out in the yard - here (great)aunt Lisa poses with the kiddos.  This is for you Lisa since you said you are always behind and not infront of the camera!  :)

Meijer Gardens

The six of us (the fam + Aunt "Dub" + Mema) met up with Deb's best friend Maria's family at the gorgeous Meijer Gargen in Grand Rapids, MI.  In addition to the grounds there also were some great children playgrounds.

Deb and my cousin Mary married Charles on Friday July 16.  The bride, the wedding, and the reception were beautiful.  Here is a picture of the happy newlymeds along with the Schering cousins who were there.

Binder Park Zoo

On Tim's last full day in MI Mema had to go into work and  Deb had already left, so the four of us were all by ourselves.  We packed up the fam and spent the morning at a nice zoo in Battle Creek, MI.  The zoo is set in a woods, and the huge trees are everywhere.  A highlight of the visit was feeding the girraffes - all four of us took a turn!

All four of us packed our bags and flew to IL to visit Tim's family.  This was the first time many of these family members got to meet Sammy.  We had a nice time visiting family and participating in vacation activities (museums, parks, dining out, etc).  Below are some highlights of the trip.

Lizzy's favorite part of the trip was probably a toss-up between our trip to the Niabi Zoo and her sleepover at Grandma Sharon's. At the zoo she was able to see giraffes and ride a train (both of which rank at the top of her "favorite" lists).  The theme of the sleepover was "DORA" (another favorite).  Above is a picture of  Lizzy and Austin squeezing into the train seat with Grandma, and a shot of her special Dora bedding.

Tim, Papa Roger, and Sammy taknig a ride on one of Papa's tractors. Sammy LOVED riding the tractor, where as Lizzy was a bit scared of the entire process...

Sammy's favorite part of the trip was probably visiting the John Deere Pavillion.  There we were able to sit inside various display tractors including hugh combines.  When placed in the seat Sammy right away grabbed the wheel and tried to shift the machine into gear!  It was so funny!

Greatgrandma Pruis was so excited that all 13 greatgrandchildren were in town.  We tried to get a picture, however between the screaming, tantrums, and camera fright this was the best we could get (i.e. way too close to nap time...).

On the last full day of Deb's visit we received the sad news that our 84 year old Oma had passed away.  Even though there was some relief that her suffering was over, it was still sad.  Deb changed her plans and instead of flying back to TX on Sun she instead flew with Sammy, Lizzy, and I to MI.  The kiddos and I spent the week in MI.  Much of the time there was spent at either the visitation or funeral at which we saw many family and friends.  However, during the week wqe we were also able to see a couple friends.  Below are some photos from our week in MI.

Hard to believe the month of July came and went without ANY new posts!  This is sort of odd considering during the school year I am regularly able to find/make time to post tidbits, but during my month of from teaching I am too “busy” to write anything…  So here is a brief summary of July.  Above is a picures of Lizzy enjoying the beach at Lake Michigan.  Make sure to scroll below as there are many posts from the various legs of our vacation!

July 3 – July 7:  Tim, Chris, and Lizzy visit family in Kalamazoo, MI

July 7 – July 12: Tim, Chris, and Lizzy visit family in Morrison, IL

July 12: Tim flies back to AZ

July 12 – 18: Chris and Lizzy stay with Mema in Kalamazoo, MI

July 18 – 22: Mema, Chris, and Lizzy take a slow road trip from MI to AZ

It took us 5 days, but eventually Lizzy, Mema, and I made it from Kalmazoo, MI to Scottsdale, AZ.   Each day we tried to stop and at least do one fun thing.  On Sat we made it to Morrison, IL where were got together with Tim’s family at his sister Angie’s house.  Lizzy spent most of the 4 hours playing with her cousins, Grandma Sharon, and Papa Roger.   On Sun July 19, we drove through Iowa and Kansas and stopped at a nice park and an outlet mall.  On Mon July 20 we drove through Kansas and Colorado stopping in Colorado Springs by 4 pm.  That evening we toured the Air Force Academy Chapel and walked around the Garden of the Gods Park.  On the morning of Tues July 21 we went to the Seven Falls Park and enjoyed the wonderful Colorado weather and views.  We spent the rest of the day taking the scenic drive to Santa Fe, NM.  The morning of Wed July 22 we spent some time shopping and relaxing (picture above) in historic Santa Fe, NM before driving the rest of the way back to Scottsdale.

During Lizzy and my stay in MI, we got together with a few of my friends from high school and their kids.  My friend Katie has two kids, Taylor (~ 6) and Drew (~ 4).  Amy also has a girl and a boy; Ana (~2.5) and John (~ 7 months).  While it was great to see them all, Lizzy really enjoyed playing with Ana and hugging and kissing John.  It is now about a month later, but Lizzy still brings up Ana and "baby John."
